Three Things To Know About Miami: Country Living

The Redlands: More Than Just City Lights

When you hear "Miami," your mind might conjure visions of glitzy beaches and neon-lit nights, but hold onto your sunglasses – there's a side to Miami that's as country as a square dance. Yes, you read that right – amidst the hustle and bustle, Miami's Redlands offers a rustic retreat that's bound to make your heart skip a yeehaw.

Here are three of my favorite places in the Homestead/Redlands area:

  • Robert is Here. Imagine a six-year-old kiddo with dreams of milkshakes – now meet Robert. Seventy years ago, he started slinging shakes that could make a cowboy cry tears of joy. Don't forget the petting zoo out back – enjoy a shake and hang out with goats, because why not?

  • Monkey Jungle. Spa day? How about a jungle jaunt where monkeys treat your back like a bounce house? Enter Monkey Jungle – a place monkeying around for nine decades. Who needs a spa when you can stroll through a rainforest with monkeys as your companions? They might just hitch a ride on your back, so be prepared for some unexpected furry friends.

  • Knaus Berry Farm: Where Cinnamon Buns and Strawberry Fields Forever Collide. Knaus Berry Farm is the winter wonderland Miami didn't know it needed. Embrace your inner forager as you pluck your own strawberries in the chillier months. But wait, there's more – their cinnamon buns are so good, they'd make Grandma blush, and the milkshakes? They're the reason cows smile. Just a heads-up: Thanksgiving here means a line longer than a cat's afternoon nap. Their legendary pies have folks queueing up like it's a holiday miracle.

Miami's not just about high-rises and beach bashes. The Redlands spills the beans – or should we say strawberries – on a laid-back side that's as charming as a Southern drawl. Whether you're clinking milkshakes with goats, embracing your inner monkey whisperer, or going full-on forager, Miami's Redlands dishes out country vibes with a side of sunshine. So, next time you're in the Magic City, take a detour and trade skyscrapers for strawberry fields – your heart will thank you for it.
